HISTORY NOTES

Canada's history has been affected by European history. Canada was settled by people from Europe.

Martin Luther, John Knox and Jon Calvin all challenged/ disagreed with the Roman Catholic Church.

They tried to reform the Church and ended up forming their won churches called Protestant Churches.

France was a mainly Roman Catholic country.
Since New France was a French colony, the faith of New France was Roman Catholicism.

Before the 1500s, European Christians were Roman Catholic.

Protestants were mistreated or persecuted  in France. They could not teach in French universities and they could not settle in French colonies.

Today we studied simple and compound  predicates:

Every complete sentence contains two parts: a subject and a predicate. But sometimes a sentence has compound subject and compound predicate.

A. What is a compound subject?

A compound subject consists of two or more simple subjects joined by a conjunction and, or, or nor. The subjects share the same verb.

 Example:Rangers and loggers ^{(compound subject)} explore and protect the forest.

B. What is a compound predicate?

A compound predicate consists of two or more verbs or verb phrases. The simple predicates are connected by and, but, or nor. The verbs share the same subject.

Example:Rangers explore and protect the forest ^{(compound predicate)}.

Least Common Multiple (LCM): Least Common Multiple (LCM)

Today we studied LCM and GCF.
LCM is

It is simply the smallest of the common multiples.

Example: Find the least common multiple for 3 and 5:

The multiples of 3 are 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, ...,
and the multiples of 5 are 5, 10, 15, 20, ..., like this:

 As you can see on this number line, the first time the multiples match up is 15. Answer: 15

Today we reviewed sentences. A sentence:
1)Begins with a capital letter.
2) Ends with a period, question mark or exclamation mark.
3)Makes sense because it expresses a complete thought. It has a subject and a predicate.

Jesus wept.

This is a complete sentence
Jesus is the subject part( the noun) of the sentence.
Wept is the predicate part ( verb) of the sentence.

The subject tells who or what the sentence is about.

The predicate tells us about the subject.

 Our school year is almost over. It has been an amazing year. Grade 8s , you are leaving Leger to embark on the adventure known as high school. Grade 7s , you will be next year's school leaders.

Parents, please be advised that we have begun our Fully Alive unit on human sexuality. In accordance with the Assembly of Catholic Bishops of Ontario (ACBO), we will discuss and reflect on the Church's meesage on this topic.

God made us male and female, and all of God’s creation is good. In earlier grades, this theme was presented through a continuing story, which emphasized God’s plan for new life as the result of the love of mothers and fathers. In later grades, the message is unchanged but the approach is more direct. As students enter puberty, they need to know about the changes they will experience and about the responsibilities of being created male and female and following God’s plan for them.
