Samuel de Champlain

Samuel de Champlain was important in the development of New France. He established a military alliance with the Huron people. Champlain  founded a settlement for Europeans which was to become Canada. Champlain was a cartographer (map maker) who created detailed maps about the Atlantic coast, the water ways of the St. Lawrence and its tributaries, and a view of the interior continent. Samuel has crossed the Atlantic Ocean many times. But unlike Cartier, Champlain did not fail. He succeeded on his mission.

Religious Figures

Roman Catholic was the major religion in New France until the 1500's. Then there were religious reformers such as Martin Luther in Germany, John Calvin in Switzerland, and John Knox in Scotland. They protested against the Roman Catholic faith. Then there were the Jesuits. St. Ignatious Loyola founded the society in 1534. They had two goals, to spread the Roman Catholic religion among the First Nations peoples and to establish a school for boys. Then there were the Ursulines. A convent was a group of women who served God and the church. Marie Martin built the Ursuline mission making one of the strongest arms of the Catholic Church in Quebec. They also built a school for girls and taught reading, writing, arithmetic, and homemaking.
History
a.)        Explain why Samuel de Champlain was so important in the development of New France.

Samuel de Champlain was so important in the development of New France. He founded a settlement at Quebec City which was the first permanent settlement for the Europeans in what was to become Canada. Then he established a military alliance with the Huron people. Then for the next 20 years Champlain worked tirelessly to build a colony for France. Finally his skills as a cartographer provided detailed maps of the Atlantic coast, the waterways of the St. Lawrence and its tributaries, and a view of the interior of the continent that had, until then, not been available to Europeans. That's why Champlain was such an important part of the development of New France.

b.)        Describe the role of the religious figures in the life of New France.

The role of the religious figures in the life of New France was to support the Roman Catholic faith in New France. Both the Ursulines and the Jesuits had a very important role in the life of New France. The Ursulines built schools for girls and the Jesuits built schools for boys. The life for the religious figures was hard because on one hand you have protestants getting people not to believe in the Roman Catholic faith. So life was hard for them.

THE PARAGRAPH

Today we discussed the pargraph:

MATH

Today we studied RATIOS & PROPORTIONS

A RATIO - a comparison of two numbers

e.g.  2:5           o r 2:5  or

A proportion is a name we give to a statement that two ratios are equal. It can be written in two ways:
  • two equal fractions,
  • or,
  • using a colon,    a:b = c:d
When two ratios are equal, then the cross products of the ratios are equal.
That is, for the proportion, a:b = c:d ,  a x d = b x

The Jesuit Priests
The Jesuit priests were sent to New France (Quebec) to spread Roman Catholic religion and to open schools for boys. The Jesuit priests were founded by St. Ignatius Loyola in 1534. The Jesuit Priests had established schools for boys in some of the new settlements. The Jesuit Priests had achieved both of their main goals.
JAKE

HISTORY

                                                   Samuel De Champlain
Samuel DE Champlain was so important in the development,of New France because he was very good at exploring since he was a very famous cartographer.Samuel DE Champlain also founded a settlement at Quebec City, the first permanent for Europeans is what was to become Canada. This famous explorer also made alliances with the Huron  and shot down the Iroquois and then started building a new colony for France. So it was obvious why he was known as the father of New France.
                                                                 Religious Figures

Religious Figures in new France were very busy. The Jesuit Priests spread he Roman Catholic Religion  to the first Nations, and to establish schools for boys. The Ursuline established  schools for girls. The Ursuline left to live with the First Nations people to teach them Francs traditions and religions.
Samuel de Champlain
Samuel de Champlain was important in the development of New France.  Every time Champlain went on a voyage, he accomplished a great deal.  He was a skilled cartographer who provided detailed maps of the Atlantic Coast, the waterways of the St. Lawrence River and its tributaries, and a view of the interior of the continent that had until then, not been available to Europeans.  He established a military alliance with the Huron people.  He joined them in an attack near a lake that would bear his name.  Champlain worked tirelessly to build a colony for France.  Before Champlain died, he established a successful colony.

Roles of Religious Figures
There were religious figures in the life of New France.  In New France, the religion is Roman Catholic.  Jesuits are also part of the Roman Catholic religion.  Their role was to make schools for boys and girls and to spread Roman Catholic religion to the First Nations people.  St. Ignatius Loyola was a Jesuit.  He founded the society in 1534 to reform and promote Roman Catholic religion.

Samuel du Champlain

Samuel du Champlain is considered the "Father of New France". Champlain was an important figure in the development of New France. Why? Samuel has the skill of a map-maker (cartographer); Samuel was sent out to find two things to the king of France. Samuel needed to find a route to the Orient (Asia) and to find riches for France. While he was on his voyage Samuel founded a settlement at Stadaconna (Quebec City), established a military alliance with the Huron and killed two chiefs. But most of all Samuel established a successful colony for France, after 20 years. The time of Samuel's death of all his hard work building a colony, Champlain was considered the "Father of New France"

The Religious Figures

The Religious Figures in the life of New France was important because the religion I am today wouldn't have happen without New France's Religion Figures. Christianity in the form of the Roman Catholic Church was Europe's major religion. Protestants such as John Calvin, John Knox, and Martin Luther were against the Roman Catholic Faith. At the end France remained a Catholic country. St. Ignatius created the Society of Jesus called Jesuits. Jesuits had two main goals in mind such as establishing schools for boys so they can become a lawyers, doctors, and priest, also to spread the Roman Catholic religion to the First Nations. This is why the Religious Figures is a big development for me.

New France-Role of Religious Figures
In the life of New France, the role of religious figures was to spread the Roman Catholic faith in New France. Both the Jesuits and the Ursulines went to New France to do this. The Jesuits built a school for boys and the Ursulines built a school for girls. In the effort to convert the First Nations to the Roman Cathoilc faith, both French and First Nations children were included in these schools. The religious figures built missionaries such as Sainte Marie Among the Hurons. These missionaries contained a church and some homes to care for poor or sick people. Although the French tried to assimilate the First Nations people, they were not very focused on it and soon accepted their differences.

Samuel de Champlain was so important in the development of New France! He worked very hard to build a colony for France. Samuel  also established a military alliance with the Hurons. 2.    Describe the role of religious figures in the life of New France.
The religious figures of New France had a few roles on their part. Some religious figures were the Ursulines, Jesuits, and the Protestants. The Ursulines were a community of nuns. Their main goal was to spread their religious faith and to establish school for girls. Their school taught reading, writing, homemaking, and arithmetics. The goal of the Jesuits was to also to spread their religious faith, and to establish school for boys. Their school taught Latin, mathematics, philosophy, and religion. Lastly, there were the protestants. The protestants were people who did not agree with the Roman Catholic faith. They were persecuted and there were some consequences to being a protestant. For example, they couldn't hold positions under the crown, teach in French universities, and they couldn't settle in colonies in New France. Some religious reformers were John Knox, John Calvin, and Martin Luther.

History

Samuel de Champlain-Father of New France
Samuel de Champlain was so important in the development of New France because he founded it. At first it was a settlement, but it soon began to grow. Champlain formed an alliance with the Huron, and helped them by fighting the Iroquois along side the Huron. Due to Champlain killing the Iroquois chiefs, the Huron won. I think this strengthened the alliance, so the Huron allowed Champlain to expand his settlement into a colony. For the next 20 years, Champlain worked very hard to build this colony for New France. By the time of his death, he had the title of "The Father of New France."
