HISTORY
The Farmer
- Farming was important in New France.
- Seigneurs were men given land by the King. These men were usually former soldiers or others who had won the King's favour.
- habitants worked the land for the seigneurs. They had to give a portion of the crops as payment. They also had to help harvest the seigneur's private fields. They had to donate their labour to the building and upkeep if the church. They could grow their own crops.
Seigneurie - land given to a seigneur and worked by a habitant.
Filles de roi were young single women who were encouraged to leave France and travel to New France to marry the single French settlers so that the population of the colony would increase.

HISTORY NOTES
Canada's history has been affected by European history. Canada was settled by people from Europe.
Martin Luther, John Knox and Jon Calvin all challenged/ disagreed with the Roman Catholic Church.
They tried to reform the Church and ended up forming their won churches called Protestant Churches.
France was a mainly Roman Catholic country.
Since New France was a French colony, the faith of New France was Roman Catholicism.
Before the 1500s, European Christians were Roman Catholic.
Protestants were mistreated or persecuted in France. They could not teach in French universities and they could not settle in French colonies.

Today we reviewed sentences. A sentence:
1)Begins with a capital letter.
2) Ends with a period, question mark or exclamation mark.
3)Makes sense because it expresses a complete thought. It has a subject and a predicate.
Jesus wept.
This is a complete sentence
Jesus is the subject part( the noun) of the sentence.
Wept is the predicate part ( verb) of the sentence.
The subject tells who or what the sentence is about.
