Don't be intimidated if you don't get it right on the first few drafts. Keep revising and editing. Anything can be improved upon! 

Traits of Writing

There are 6 traits of good writing. Today we will look at Ideas.

WRITING A GOOD INTRODUCTION

There  are four different ways  to  hook or grab your reader's  attention.

Persuasive Writing

The main techniques ehen trying to convince others of something


- Appeal to Character or Identity: establish common ground with your audience, compliment or flatter them  and appeal to some common or shared value or belief.


- Appeal to Reason: give facts or evidence  to shoe that the only logical, reasonable or true way is your way.


_ Appeal to Emotion: make them feel some strong emotion. The emotion may be positive  ( Love, joy, excitement) or negative ( fear, disgust and anger).


Homework

Complete the handout, coming up with examples of each. This is due tomorrow.

Persuasive Writing

We have begun our unit on Persuasive Writing. Remember the tips to writing a good speech:

·     Introduce yourself to the audience

·     Thank your audience for listening

·     State your opinion

·     Give reasons why your audience should agree with you

·     Create a catchy/powerful phrase and repeat a few times

·     Ask a rhetorical question

·     Wrap up  with a closing sentence
