MATH

Population is any entire collection of people, animals, plants or things from which we may collect data. It is the entire group we are interested in, which we wish to describe or draw conclusions about.

sample is a group  selected from a larger group (the population). By studying the sample it is hoped to draw valid conclusions about the larger group.

sample is generally selected for study because the population is too large to study.
The sample should be representative of the general population.

 A Biased Sample :
A sample is biased if individuals or groups from the population are not represented in the sample.

Biased Question

Definition of Biased Question

  • A Biased Question is a question worded in such a way that a particular answer is favored over others.
  • Also a biased question makes assumptions that may or may not be true.

Example(s) of Biased Question

  • Do you want to eat a hamburger or the usual vegetable sandwich?
This question is unfair, because it favors hamburger over vegetable sandwich.
  • Is green your favorite color?
This question is asked based on an assumption, i.e. the person to whom this question is asked may or may not like green color.

Solved Example on Biased Question:

Is the following question biased? Say yes or no.
‘Do you watch movies directed by Steven Spielberg’?
Choices:
A. Yes
B. No
Correct Answer: B
Solution:
Step 1: No, the given question is not biased, because neither does it favor one answer over others nor does it make any assumption.

Related Terms:

  • Unfair
  • Assumption
  • Favor
Real-world Connections for Biased Question
  • Usually companies use biased questions in their advertisements or marketing surveys to make people favor their products over others.

INQUIRY SKILLS

Wednesday, 15 November 2017

Dear Parents:

Staring Thursday November 16, the grade 8 students will begin a major fundraising effort for their grade 8 trip. This fundraiser will allow individual students to sell chocolates off site. Each participating student will receive a box of containing 30 bars. In order for a child to participate in the contest, a parent/guardian must sign a permission form that will be distributed to students.  No child will be issued a box of candy without a signed permission form.  The permission form states that the child can receive a case of World’s Finest Chocolate to sell as part of the fundraising contest being conducted by the grade 8 students. By signing this form, the parent/guardian understands that their child agrees to sell the bars of WFC candy and that guardian is responsible for their child turning in $90 in cash for each case sold.  These funds must be paid in cash.
Parent permission forms have been sent home today. Please sign and return.

HOLY SOULS DAY

Prayer for our Dear Departed

O Good Jesus, Whose loving Heart was ever troubled by the sorrows of others, look with pity on the souls of our dear ones in Purgatory. O Thou who didst "love Thine own," hear our cry for mercy, and grant that those whom Thou hast called from our homes and hearts may soon enjoy everlasting rest in the home of Thy love in Heaven. Amen.

V. Eternal Rest grant unto them, O Lord.

R. And let perpetual light shine upon them. Amen.

ALL:
Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.
