HISTORY

Today we discussed  THE FINANCIAL REASONS FOR CONFEDERATION

A Change in Britain’s Attitude
England did not want to be responsible for taking care of the colonies anymore.
Up until this time, England took care of BNA colonies since England needed this land for a souce of food. England bought a great deal of the food that grew in North America, but now England did not want to buy their food only from its colonies. It also wanted to do business with other countries. So, if the colonies came together to form a country, then together they would make their business stronger.
Change in US  Trade Policy

In 1865-6, the Reciprocity Treaty between BNA and the United States ended. The United States no longer wanted free trade with BNA.

HISTORY

Before 1867, Canada was called British North America (BNA). It was not a country. It was divided into areas called colonies. A colony is an area under the control of another country. Britain was the mother country of these colonies.
It defended its colonies in British North America and had a special trade relationship with them.

Why did  the colonies of British North America joined together to become the country of Canada.

This joining together of colonies into a country is called Confederation.

Today we discussed that fear of American attack.
