    •John A. MacDonald, George Brown and George Etienne created the Great Coalition in 1864.
    •During the coalition, Harriet Tubman brought black slaves to Canada, freeing them. The operation was dangerous and thorough, as they hid in swamps, rivers, and sheds.
    •George Brown was a founder of the Toronto Anti-Slavery Side.
    •The new citizens (slaves, Loyalists) didn’t like their rights, and some would rather go back to slavery than stay in Canada.
    •Throughout this time, a potato famine spread though Ireland and many had to move abroad, and Canada was a particular place where it was safe for them, but numerous people died from diseases during the voyage.

  6. 5 interesting facts I learned are:

    1.From the 1840's to the 1860's Harriet Tubman took slaves on the Underground Railroad to be free.

    2.$40 000 was the prize to catch Harriet Tubman.

    3. There was a potato famine in Ireland in the 1840's.

    4.After the Irish arrived in Canada after the 1840's potatoes famine, many were killed from typhus.

    5.George Brown, John A. McDonald and George Etienne became one entity and worked together to create the Great Coalition in 1864.
