History
Samuel de Champlain was so important in the development of New France! He worked very hard to build a colony for France. Samuel  also established a military alliance with the Hurons. Champlain also became a cartographer  (map maker) and provided maps of the St.Lawrence river and the Atlantic ocean.  Without Samuel de Champlain, New France would not have developed as it was.

2.    Describe the role of religious figures in the life of New France.
The religious figures of New France had a few roles on their part. Some religious figures were the Ursulines, Jesuits, and the Protestants. The Ursulines were a community of nuns. Their main goal was to spread their religious faith and to establish school for girls. Their school taught reading, writing, homemaking, and arithmetics. The goal of the Jesuits was to also to spread their religious faith, and to establish school for boys. Their school taught Latin, mathematics, philosophy, and religion. Lastly, there were the protestants. The protestants were people who did not agree with the Roman Catholic faith. They were persecuted and there were some consequences to being a protestant. For example, they couldn't hold positions under the crown, teach in French universities, and they couldn't settle in colonies in New France. Some religious reformers were John Knox, John Calvin, and Martin Luther.
