Samuel du Champlain
Samuel du Champlain is considered the "Father of New France". Champlain was an important figure in the development of New France. Why? Samuel has the skill of a map-maker (cartographer); Samuel was sent out to find two things to the king of France. Samuel needed to find a route to the Orient (Asia) and to find riches for France. While he was on his voyage Samuel founded a settlement at Stadaconna (Quebec City), established a military alliance with the Huron and killed two chiefs. But most of all Samuel established a successful colony for France, after 20 years. The time of Samuel's death of all his hard work building a colony, Champlain was considered the "Father of New France"
The Religious Figures
The Religious Figures in the life of New France was important because the religion I am today wouldn't have happen without New France's Religion Figures. Christianity in the form of the Roman Catholic Church was Europe's major religion. Protestants such as John Calvin, John Knox, and Martin Luther were against the Roman Catholic Faith. At the end France remained a Catholic country. St. Ignatius created the Society of Jesus called Jesuits. Jesuits had two main goals in mind such as establishing schools for boys so they can become a lawyers, doctors, and priest, also to spread the Roman Catholic religion to the First Nations. This is why the Religious Figures is a big development for me.
