History
a.) Explain why Samuel de Champlain was so important in the development of New France.
Samuel de Champlain was so important in the development of New France. He founded a settlement at Quebec City which was the first permanent settlement for the Europeans in what was to become Canada. Then he established a military alliance with the Huron people. Then for the next 20 years Champlain worked tirelessly to build a colony for France. Finally his skills as a cartographer provided detailed maps of the Atlantic coast, the waterways of the St. Lawrence and its tributaries, and a view of the interior of the continent that had, until then, not been available to Europeans. That's why Champlain was such an important part of the development of New France.
b.) Describe the role of the religious figures in the life of New France.
The role of the religious figures in the life of New France was to support the Roman Catholic faith in New France. Both the Ursulines and the Jesuits had a very important role in the life of New France. The Ursulines built schools for girls and the Jesuits built schools for boys. The life for the religious figures was hard because on one hand you have protestants getting people not to believe in the Roman Catholic faith. So life was hard for them.
