St. Kateri Tekawitha
By: Jaylen
St. Kateri Tekawitha was an Algonquin Mohawk Catholic also known as Lily of the Mohawks. She was adopted by her uncle and aunt when her mother passed away of small pox. Growing up they did not allow her to believe in the Roman Catholic faith as they wanted her to believe in the Mohawks way of life. But her mother who was an Algonquin Catholic wanted to be the same like her mother. Her uncle finally gave his consent for Kateri to convert to Christianity. When she converted to Christianity, the people in her village turned against her and was ridiculed. When she was old enough, she left her village to New France known as Montreal where she saw many different aboriginal people around. This was a Christian settlement for aboriginals. She spent the rest of her life in New France where she was devoted to teaching the Blessed Sacrament.
What did I learn about these early Christian martyrs?
I learned that these early Christian martyrs were devoted to Christianity.
How were they similar? How are they different?
Both of them were Saints who spread the Christian faith. St. Kateri spread the teachings of the Sacrament of Baptism. St. Cecelia taught the virtues of courage and faithfulness through persecution.
